Munidopsis polymorpha (Lanzarote Ghost Crabs) - Jameos del Agua

Munidopsis polymorpha is a species of squat lobster (also known as the blind albino cave crab or ghost crab ) that is endemic to Lanzarote. They are small, blind and pale, and can only be found in the caves of Jameos del Agua in lava tubes formed by volcanic eruptions 15,000 years ago. Their conservation status is endangered. It is the official animal symbol of Lanzarote. translucent ghost crabs covertly creep from their tombs in the volcanic saline vault - like phantom gleaners blindly picking from a rotting harvest

Islote de Fermina - Arrecife

The derelict Islote de Fermina, opposite the Gran Hotel in Arrecife, isn't open to the public anymore , but once we were walking by and for some reason the gate was open. Along with a few other curious trespassers, we sneaked through and had a good look around. Mulberry Haiku

Neither of us had ever eaten mulberries before moving to Lanzarote. The trees grow all around Mozaga and it took me while to work out what they were. When they were in season, we would pick the plump fruit every morning whilst jogging past the trees - us running off with stained fingers and lips. I learnt that the reason these wonderful fruits rarely make their way to market is due to their highly perishable nature. They seem to exploded when you pick them, covering your fingers with the sweetest scarlet juice - very messy and delicious. The mulberry tree is deciduous and goes by the Latin name Morus. In Spanish they are called Mora. The fruit go through a ripening stage, from white to green and then pink to red and then finally purple-black. The adage for mulberry fruit is, “the darker, the better.” The fruit is an aggregation of small fruits arranged together. Like a blackberry but larger and so much sweeter and juicier.
