It has been almost four years since our first visit to Arrecife. There were many reasons that we fell in love with the crumbling, buzzing, funky, historic capital city of Lanzarote. One of those reasons was that by sheer coincidence, literally two minutes walk from where we were staying, a very special vegan café, The V Factor, had newly opened that very same week. We spotted the listing on the Happy Cow website and headed over as quickly as we could. Apparently we have the honour of being their first foreign customers to dine there and our review was the first to appear on Trip Advisor.

Love at first bite. Even now we try to get there once a week if possible, opting usually for the imaginative Menu del Dia - three courses plus a drink on the side, for a bargain €10. Or if we're up for a challenge on very empty stomachs, we might opt for the famous and gargantuan 'Vig burger', a veritable tasty Scooby Snack Stack, multi-layered vegan burger!
The V Factor is neatly tucked away on a corner of a little side street, right off the seafront. The food is always tasty, 100% vegan, seasonal, fresh soul food. Their coffees are rich too, although Justin will usually choose a té verde.
It is always a joy to see the delightfully upbeat and energetic Mitrix and José and The V Factor team ... always busy, busy, busy... and smiling.
The funky decor of newspapers, blackboards and chalk, 80s music playing (Madonna is top of the pops), the menus on vintage record sleeves, Rubik cubes, baskets of knitting and the quirky daily Facebook updates all add to that essential 'V Factor factor'. You can even bring your dog along too!
Later, after we've eaten and we're driving home, tummies full, I'm usually planning my next visit and what l'll order next time.
