Aloe Vera Haiku

Aloe Veras are in flower now all over the island, and they look quite spectacular, especially when seen planted closely together. I wanted to learn more about this striking succulent plant that is so popular in Lanzarote.

Aloe Vera flourishes in hot and dry climates and grows well in well-drained soil. Usually, the plant grows in arid regions and the Lanzarote climate suits it perfectly.

It is found in many consumer products including beverages, skin lotion, cosmetics and ointments for minor burns and sunburns. In actual fact, there is little scientific evidence of the effectiveness or safety of Aloe Vera extracts for either cosmetic or medicinal purposes. Studies finding positive evidence are frequently contradicted by other studies.

In ancient Egypt, Aloe Vera was popularly known as the ‘Plant of Immortality’, and Egyptians also used it in their burial rituals. Historical evidence shows that Cleopatra included the plant in her beauty regime and used the plant on her body and face.

Aloe Vera was also popular with Native Americans, who named it 'The Wand of Heaven’ because they belived the plant was sacred for its health benefits and included in in spiritual rituals.

The plant has long life expectancy and it can survive for more than 100 years in the wild.

Here is my aloe vera haiku:
