what secrets hide inside a volcano?
steep and ivory in the wax-melt sun
the elephant cone stands firm -
head and shoulders with brothers and sisters
the elephant cone stands firm -
head and shoulders with brothers and sisters
huddled in vivid costumes, changing
as a phantom flits and darts
and we, the curious, on an unsteady ascent
living life by foot, climbing to search
living life by foot, climbing to search
stroking the porcelain exterior of lava
worn down to its ancient grey bones
pilgrims, we climb, seeking to learn
what secrets are held inside
hushed by puffy cumulus
passing shadows over its jacket
whilst cirrostratus move
like vapour trail, striping overhead
and the pastel tides of the sky above
now split and arch, bleeding out
now split and arch, bleeding out
a shocking rainbow
alive and keeping the mountain's secret still
something untold written in the powder rocks
or clasped inside, held deep within
the lava fortress
until finally we stumble upon
a sanctuary of gossamer veil -
greening: the springtime secret
of the verdant caldera
telling for us now
