in sunshine, the water is irradiant turquoise -

lined with palms and to the westside skyline
the distinctive lava-stone tower
and gleaming white cupola
of La Iglesia de San Ginés - a dedication
to Arrecife's patron saint
- and I remember us sitting in a bar here
on a still summer's night some years ago ... planning
and after all that excited talk, we had left the bar
and local kids were jumping into the warm 'puddle'
in the darkening, as the painted stonework
from the old fishermen's cottages glowed white
this afternoon, the promenade is bustling and sunny
and on the small stone bridges
tourists and locals mingle and pass by -
some lean against the sun-warmed bridge barriers
gazing dreamily across the scenic 'puddle'
- this unique and historic lagoon
where the small colourful, anchored boats
glitter like charms
